Ouija Chess: The prompt of this project was to reimagine the game of chess in a unique way. My idea is guided by the notion that whether a grandmaster or a beginner, the game can take on a mystical twist when we partner with spirits from beyond guiding our every move. By creating a Ouija chessboard and fusing the chess pieces into the planchettes, each player can gently lay their fingers on their chess piece and wait for their ghostly partners to move the pieces across the board.

To make the pieces I sheared original chess pieces in half and mounted them onto handmade, wooden planchette pieces. I then Vac-U-Formed the mounted pieces to make a mold to pour my liquid formula into. After they hardened, I then spray painted each piece to differentiate the teams. The Ouija board is 36”x24” and the chess pieces are sized by importance. CHECKMATE!
